Energy saving adverts huh? really?

Travelling by bus, on the screens provided for viewing entertainment, I have seen an advert abt a cute dog who to sheild his owner from the cold draft, on bein commanded by his owner, sits before the door n takes the cold draft onto himself..
I'm aware of the old adage a dog is a mans best friend but viewing this advert doesnt bring about any feeling of joy or triumph, infact makes me feel very sad. I'm aware its "just another advertisement" n serves the purpose for EST..the point they are trying to put across but personally i feel this is incorrect..its cruel n mean n inhumane.
To prove a point of saving energy one could adopt different avenues (i havent seen their other adverts but im sure there are different ways) One that shows something like this is unacceptable. Its more like to help/protect a human being's interest (in this case being secure from a cold draft) his own pet is pushed to do the deed then if that indicates saving energy.. its quite pathetic..I did suggest to their Creative Team, by putting my opinion forth that this should be replaced wherein they could come up with more brilliant ideas via other interesting thoughts n adverts to save energy. However the response i got back made me feel 'do u really care'? The lady in question who very kindly(?) answered back said :- (and these are the exact words) "the advert was produced in 2004 as part of a series of filler adverts. Filler adverts are shown for free, but the Energy Saving Trust can not specify where and when they are played. The Energy Saving Trust will continue to show these fillers because they encourage consumers to take up energy saving measures such as insulation, however please note that our paid for TV adverts have been updated. For information on how to save energy please contact 0800 915 7722 orvisit the website at www.est.org.uk/myhome

Whoooooshhhhh, just like that.. more like an electronically generated mail n like yea, do i/we care? I thought what a load of crap. I really have nothing against intelligent campaigns to save energy. This advert in question though maybe effective to suit the purpose results in a cringing feeling everytime viewed.. its sad EST has had to take aid n target an animal, ordered cruely around by a smug expressioned old man (actor played in the advert)..then be it even if it is to SAVE ENERGY or insulation..

N comin to think of it, its not that its impossible..I'm sure if someone really wanted to, they could trace back to the origin of the screenin of this advert (then even if thats aired free as a filler) n take it off completely. It is happily sitting listed as one of their adverts with others too.. n i have never seen any other on a bus till today except this despicable one repeated on n on.

I wonder, in a country where human rights get loads of priority, where has the feeling of humane and compassion for animals gone to?

I think end of it all, i'll understand if much cant be done about this (which im sure wont be done) but i think what i have to say could have atleast been conveyed to THE creative team/managers such that they vaguely keep in mind : prove a point but not at the cost of being unkind.

To view the advert go on to http://www.est.org.uk/myhome/whatcan/tv/ its the one at the bottom with the cute dog in it.
(i'm sure there may be many others worse than this one..but for some reason this made me feel very sorry for the cute dog featured in it..it may not be cruelty while recording but as its so well acted by this cute pooch n that grumpy grandpa..hmm maybe that makes me feel this way.. maybe. Oh well all the same the concept feels unhealthy) once viewed..U decide!
